A–C

Age-Ghosting
A phenomenon wherein a time traveler appears at multiple ages simultaneously to observers with temporal sensitivity. Caused by residual chronal fracture imprinting — the body "remembers" every age it has been forced to skip. Kai Eschendorf is the most prominent example, ghosting between 28 and 115 simultaneously.

Biological Drift
The slow, cumulative divergence of a time traveler's cellular baseline from their chronological reference point. Each jump compounds the drift, leading to unpredictable mutations, immune system irregularities, and a phenomenon known as epigenetic scrambling. Directly related to the 10:1 Toll.

Chronal Fracture
A catastrophic break in local spacetime continuity, often caused by exceeding the safe limits of frame dragging. A chronal fracture can manifest as a visible crack in reality leaking purple light (see: The Wound), or as a complete temporal collapse that creates a Scar Zone.

D–F

Decay Haze
A permanent, shimmering atmospheric fog found in Scar Zones caused by microscopic gravitational lensing events. Distorts vision, disrupts technology, and contains chronal particulates that accelerate the 10:1 Toll on biological tissue. Unfiltered exposure is fatal within hours.

Frame Dragging
The kinetic transport mechanism that allows a traveler to move through the temporal stream. Frame dragging wraps the traveler in a localized spacetime bubble that is "dragged" along a chronal gradient. The process generates immense cellular stress and is the primary cause of the 10:1 Toll.

Frozen Light Singularity
The 1588 Venetian device built by Alvise Eschendorf that made time travel possible. By freezing photons in a crystalline lattice and redirecting their energy states, the Singularity creates localized distortions in the timeline. Its activation created the original chronal fracture that the Eschendorf bloodline has been paying for ever since.

Gravitational Lensing
In The Stolen Stream, gravitational lensing occurs not only around massive objects but also around concentrations of temporal energy. In the Scar Zone, lensing creates visible distortions in the air — bending light in ways that allow observers to see moments from the past and future simultaneously.

The Ledger
The metaphysical accounting system — sometimes literal, sometimes abstract — that tracks every traveler's temporal debt. Every jump is recorded. Every year borrowed must be paid. The Ledger is the foundational document of temporal capitalism.

Light Cone Distortion
A visual VFX signature of temporal travel in The Stolen Stream. As a traveler activates frame dragging, their past light cone and future light cone warp around them, creating a double-image effect. Surrounding observers see the traveler's "before" and "after" positions superimposed in real time.

Memory Canyon
A kilometer-long fissure in the Scar Zone where past time strata are exposed like geological layers. The Canyon plays back auditory and visual echoes of events that occurred at each depth. A living archive of everything that has happened — and everything that will happen — in the Worcester corridor.
